2014 Lenten Outreach Project
This year St. Thomas will be focusing on helping our neighbours at Waverley School.
During Lent, we will be educating ourselves about the challenges faced by some families around Waverley Elementary School.
We will also be offering our support in various ways:
St. Thomas will be holding two special fundraising events during Lent
- Bake Sale – Sunday, March 16
Baked items will be sold during coffee, all proceeds going towards Waverley school
- Potluck Dinner – Saturday, March 29, 5:30 p.m.
Enjoy a night of fellowship, fun games and good food. Bring a potluck dish and, if possible, a small donation or new item of clothing for our outreach project. There will be door prizes and other prizes and games throughout the night.
Financially, our fundraising goal this year is $2,000. This money will go towards the school’s emergency fund. The Fund is used to help children in urgent need of food, clothing, and other essentials. Funds will be collected every week till the end of Lent during Sunday collection.
We will also be collecting items and clothing that can be distributed to children, ages 6 to 13, in Waverley School. Every Sunday we will be collecting different items:
- March 16 – New socks & undergarments
- March 23 – Toiletry
items such as toothbrushes, shampoo etc.
- March 30 – New t-shirts
- April 6 – New hats and gloves
Any contribution would be much appreciated by St.Thomas and Waverley School.
Throughout Lent we have invited special guest speakers to speak during Sunday worship and help provide some information.
- Our first guest speaker Tracy Simmons, a teacher at Morley elementary school, came on Sunday, March 9 2014. To listen to what she had to say click here.
