St Thomas Anglican Church

Parish Notices – February 2017

There will be a congregational meeting during coffee hour on February 5, to continue the work on inviting, greeting, orienting and incorporating that we began with the Bishop during her visit.

The annual Meeting of the Vestry with be held on February 26 immediately following worship. An Extraordinary Meeting of the Vestry will be held on March 19 to consider the accessibility project.

Passion: The death of the Messiah. The “passion narratives” – the stories of the suffering and death of Jesus – are the heart of the Christian observance of Holy Week. But as well as inspiring Christian devotion, these stories have inspired Christian hatred and persecution of Jews. In a time of rising xenophobia, religiously-inspired violence, and growing fear and mistrust of the “other”, an informed and responsible reading of the passion narratives is a moral imperative for all Christians. Wednesday evenings in Lent, 7:30-9PM, beginning March 8.

Mark your calendars now and plan to attend the following events:

  • Shrove Tuesday pancake supper, February 28 at 6pm
  • Lenten project fundraiser, March 25
  • Diocesan Stewardship Conference, April 1
  • MVA Provincial Election Accountability Assembly with the leaders of the major provincial political parties. Tuesday April 4, 6-8:30 PM at the Italian Cultural Centre. Food trucks available from 4:30 to 5:45. More information to come; please mark your calendars now.
